[Dr. Shifflett](https://www.discmdgroup.com/physicians/grant-d-shifflett-md/?hsLang=en) was quoted in an article about sleeping with ankylosing spondylitis in [*HealthCentral*](https://www.healthcentral.com/). The article, titled "6 Steps to Sleep Better When You Have Ankylosing Spondylitis," provides some pointers such as using a firmer mattress and utilizing sleep-designed ear-plugs. Under two of the author's tips, Dr. Shifflett provides his wisdom: 

"*3.Give a Cervical Contour Pillow a Try... 'You want a neutral spine angle, so that means a neck pillow with the right amount of support,' adds Grant Shifflett, M.D., orthopedic spine surgeon at DISC Sports & Spine Center...*"

"*6. Breathe Easier With a Mindfulness App... **Yep, sleep performance anxiety is real, says Dr. Shifflett... 'You need to practice trial and error to find out what works for you,' [he] says. 'Start with a mattress and pillow that take some stress off your spine and joints, and begin practicing good sleep hygiene, and it's likely that you’ll find yourself sleeping better.'*"
