Every single day our spines are subjected to conditions that are detrimental to its health. Poor posture, exercise, lack of exercise and gravity are just a few of the things that can hasten the natural deterioration of our spines. To combat this and potentially prevent an array of health issues from back pain to impaired breathing and digestion, take some time every day to focus on strengthening your spine.

Strengthen your core: Don’t just go for a run or bulk up your arms. Spend some time working on your entire core: front, back and sides. It can be as simple as holding some planks or doing a few minutes of yoga, just so long as focus on your midsection which is responsible for holding up your entire body and supporting your spine.

Eat healthy: If you want to improve any aspect of your body, it almost always starts with what you put in it. Making sure you are getting the right nutrients in the right amounts can help directly improve your spine health. Focus on getting enough Omega-3 fatty acids and B vitamins to help keep your spine strong and flexible.

Get some rays: Sunshine provides a host of health benefits that promote strength and vitality. 10 to 20 minutes in the Sun is all you need to absorb some natural Vitamin D that is crucial to bone and spine health.

Catch some properly aligned Z’s: It’s no secret that doctors recommend between 6 and 8 hours of sleep for a healthy body and mind. This is also true for the spine but it is important to be aware of how you’re sleeping as well as how much. Both your sleeping position and mattress can affect your spine and back, potentially causing or preventing unnecessary back pain.

Meditate: If you can find ten minutes every day to clear your mind and focus on breathing and posture, it can benefit you beyond a straightened spine. Meditation helps to relieve stress, improve mood and focus and prolong life.
