Foot and ankle surgeon Dr. James Wang was recently featured in a segment for Universal Sports on how to prevent shin splints. According to Dr. Wang, shin splints are "an imbalance in the muscles on the back of the leg and the muscles on the front of the legs so when we're training, whether it's running, jumping, swimming, cycling, we're working our calves but we're not working the front of our leg muscles."
