Not only does this exercise routine provide a tremendous workout, but it is also clinically proven to have a positive impact on stress and psychological challenges. But what do you need to get started with Pilates, so you can safely incorporate it into your own life?
DISC's Dr. Leia Rispoli, a double board-certified physiatrist and interventional pain management specialist recently weighed in on this topic for Everyday Health, advising Pilates first-timers to seek guidance from a doctor and not to be afraid to ask questions of their instructors. “Most formal Pilates classes and instructors understand to screen ... and make appropriate modifications,” said Rispoli. “But it’s definitely on the participant to disclose any injuries or pertinent medical history to the instructor.”
