The Mechanics Of Pitching Pose Hurdles To Injury Prevention

A new article in the Boston Globe takes a look at the injurious impact that a need for speed has had on pitchers throughout Major League Baseball.  While addressing team owners recently, no less than the Commissioner of the league noted his apprehension about the problem and called for assistance in getting the issue taken care of.  At the moment, there’s no unified agreement as to what the solution is, even among different members of the Red Sox.  Their manager expressed a desire to see the pitching mound lowered to ward off stress from throwing on a slope, while the pitching coach pointed out that a larger strike zone would take some of the pressure off pitchers trying to finesse the ball inside the box via potentially harmful mechanics.
