Patient Story: Jennifer Grey

Jennifer Grey shouldn’t even have been driving, let alone winning the TV show Dancing with the Stars. When Jennifer arrived at the offices of Dr. Robert Bray, she was suffering from such severe neck injuries that a simple rear-end collision could have left her “like a ragdoll”—completely paralyzed. And yet, this vivacious woman wanted to dance, and not just at a local club.

“I said to Dr. Bray, if I do all this other surgery, can I do Dancing with the Stars?” she recounts in her post-surgical patient interview. “And he said, yes, I guess so ... if you heal.”

So Jennifer went through the surgeries recommended by top spinal surgeon Dr. Bray, walked out, and, after healing, began to dance again. She says that her desire to be on the TV show was the reason she got surgery, but the reality is that she should have had the surgery long ago to fix her chronic pain and physical vulnerabilities.

“I just don’t know if I would have had the courage to do any of it if I didn’t feel this immediate ease and trust. I’m just grateful. I’m grateful all the time,” says Jennifer.

People living with the kind of post-traumatic injuries that Jennifer experienced don’t have to limit their desire to dance, or their ability move freely and live without pain. Spinal surgeries can alleviate chronic pain, and often are done with minimally invasive techniques that promote quick healing and leave little to no scarring.
