It’s pretty hard to watch tennis and not take note of the fact that the players seem to be grunting whenever they put all their power into a ball.  But that grunt could actually come in handy to their game.  New research from Hardin-Simmons University and featured in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research has discovered that individuals can actually hit the ball faster when they grunt.

The thinking is that you’re actually getting more muscles involved in the swing.  Your chest and obliques will become more efficient, and on average, this can lead the ball to volley the other way at 5 miles per hour faster than it otherwise would.
