Rugby Beset By Concussion Concerns

In the United States, the concussion discussion typically surrounds football, the most popular sport in the country and the sport that also happens to pose the greatest risk for that serious injury.

Last month, though, the Economist came out with a report that looked at the attitudes surrounding concussions in rugby.  The issue has become an important one in a sport that doesn’t use the helmets the way the NFL does.  That article points out that, while the NFL has the funds necessary to survive lawsuits and pay out players, the same can’t be said for rugby.  If forced to pay out, bankruptcy may follow in that sport.  That means the issue must be handled, not only for player safety, but for the sport itself to survive.
