Swim Seminar with Eric Shanteau

DECORATED OLYMPIC SWIMMER ERIC SHANTEAU JOINS DISC DOCTORS FOR FREE SEMINAR ON SHOULDER CARE

“Don’t Shoulder the Pain” – Part of DISC’s Olympic Athletes & Their Doctors Series: Thursday, October 27 – 6:00 PM

Marina del Rey, CA – October 12, 2011 – Don’t shoulder the pain! Join 2008 Olympian Eric Shanteau and Drs. Eric Millstein and Joseph Horrigan for an informative discussion on shoulder care instead. Hosted by DISC Sports & Spine Center (DISC), this FREE seminar will provide elite athletes and weekend warriors alike everything they need to know about their shoulders and how to take better care of them.

Among the topics to be addressed are common shoulder injuries; mistakes athletes often make when it comes to shoulder injuries; new developments in treatment; popular non-surgical options, such as PRP and prolotherapy; surgery and what to expect; proper stretching, strengthening and preventative exercises; different stroke techniques to help prevent shoulder injury and pain (by Eric); and how to manage pain and ensure shoulder health while training at high intensity.

Shanteau, a 2008 Olympian and cancer survivor who achieved his lifelong dream of qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Swim Team, receives regular preventive care for his tight shoulders in DISC’s Soft Tissue Center. On June 19, 2008, just one week before the trials, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer.  Shanteau was able to delay surgery to compete in the Olympic Games, where he swam a personal best time in the 200 meter breaststroke. A resident of Marina del Rey, he trains under Dave Salo with the pro team at the University of Southern California. [Full bio appended.]
