Dr. Graham J. Mouw is a board-certified neurosurgeon and the founder of the Motion Spine Institute, a nationally recognized center specializing in motion-preserving spinal surgery and spinal restoration. He is widely regarded as a leader in advanced spine techniques focused on restoring natural spinal function and relieving chronic neck, back, and radiating pain caused by degenerative conditions and traumatic injuries.
Dr. Mouw earned his medical degree from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, where he distinguished himself as a Dean’s Scholar. He completed his neurosurgical residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland/Case Western Reserve University, serving as Chief Resident, followed by a highly competitive fellowship in complex spinal surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). During his training, he received the Chancellor’s Service Award in recognition of leadership and excellence.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mouw has served in academic and leadership roles, including faculty appointments at premier institutions such as the Cleveland Clinic and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He has also lectured internationally, contributed extensively to scientific publications, and participated in media appearances highlighting advancements in spine care.
Dr. Mouw’s clinical focus centers on motion preservation technologies and minimally invasive surgical techniques designed to restore the spine’s natural biomechanics. He has pioneered innovative approaches in spinal reconstruction, including patented technologies aimed at improving surgical outcomes and preserving spinal mobility.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. Through his leadership at the Motion Spine Institute, Dr. Mouw continues to advance the field of spine surgery with a commitment to innovation, precision, and patient-centered care.
