Adam Routman, DO is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in disorders of the shoulder. A South Florida resident since 1979, he is widely recognized for his expertise in advanced shoulder reconstruction and sports-related shoulder injuries, with a career dedicated to restoring function, reducing pain, and helping patients return to active lifestyles.
Dr. Routman earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Florida, followed by his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, graduating Summa Cum Laude, from the Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident, and went on to complete a prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Fellowship in shoulder reconstruction at the Hughston Clinic and Sports Medicine Foundation.

Dr. Routman began practicing in Palm Beach County in 2001 and has since become a regional pioneer in shoulder surgery. Dr. Routman was among the first in South Florida to perform all-arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and performed the region’s first reverse shoulder replacement in 2003. His practice encompasses the full spectrum of shoulder conditions, including sports injuries, fractures, shoulder replacements, complex reconstructions, second opinions, and revision surgery for prior surgical failures.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Routman is an internationally active educator and surgeon, having taught and performed surgery across Australia, Asia, Europe, and South America. He serves as a design surgeon for Exactech and is actively involved in research focused on shoulder replacement outcomes, biomechanics, pain control, and surgical innovation. His work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed studies and recognized for advancing the field of shoulder arthroplasty.
Dr. Routman’s contributions to orthopedic surgery have earned him recognition including selection to Palm Beach Illustrated Top Doctors 2026 and inclusion in DoctorsDoctor – Shoulder 2025, a peer-selected index of leading shoulder specialists in the United States.
