Meet Dr. Bjorn Lobo

Dr. Lobo is committed to embracing advancements that improve spine patient outcomes. His use of the transpsoas approach, for example, has been instrumental in decreasing the time a patient requires anesthesia, which means a quicker (most often same-day) return home. His approach to spine surgery is also steeped in patient education and compassion. Using relatable analogies, he places a major emphasis in clearly explaining his patients’ diagnoses and engaging family members in the process.

Dr. Lobo completed both his residency in neurosurgery and a two-year fellowship focused on complex brain tumors at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation, one of the nation’s top 4 hospitals. He then completed a one-year fellowship in minimally invasive and endoscopic skull base surgery at Saint John’s Cancer Institute in Santa Monica. Before training as a neurosurgeon, he had been one of only a handful of high school students selected nationally to undergo an accelerated, combined undergraduate and medical school program, which he completed at Northeastern Ohio Medical University.

Today, Dr. Lobo is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgery and a Super Doctors ® Rising Star who was honored as a Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital’s “Health Care Hero” in 2019 for excellence in surgical patient care. He has authored multiple articles and book chapters focusing on advancing surgical technique and patient outcomes, and his research has been published in such respected, peer-reviewed journals as Neurosurgery, Pituitary, Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, World Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery Clinics of North America and Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society.

Dr. Lobo, alongside founder Dr. Mark Liker, is also a partner at California Neurosurgical Institute and Vice-Chair of Surgery at Dignity Health Northridge Hospital.

When he’s not performing leading-edge minimally invasive spine or brain surgery, Dr. Lobo enjoys spending time with his wife and toddler son.
