Dr. Brian Hwang is a board-certified neurosurgeon with dual fellowship training in complex spine and functional/pain neurosurgery from Johns Hopkins Hospital. He cares for adults with brain, spine, and nerve disorders, with a focus on minimally invasive and robotic spine surgery, motion-preserving spinal arthroplasty, and advanced neuromodulation for chronic, neuropathic, and cancer-related pain. His practice includes endoscopic spine procedures, spinal cord stimulation, multifidus reactivation (ReActiv8), and intrathecal pain pump therapy for patients whose pain has not responded to more conservative options.​

Introduction to DISC Sports & Spine Center

Dr. Hwang completed neurosurgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by fellowships in complex and robotic spine surgery and in functional and pain neurosurgery under nationally recognized leaders. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and also serves as a neurosurgeon and medical officer at the FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health, where he helps evaluate and guide next-generation brain and spine technologies. His work has led to over 100 peer-reviewed publications and more than 30 neurosurgical textbook chapters, along with honors such as Physician of Excellence at MemorialCare and leadership awards from Providence and the FDA.​

A former U.S. Army Special Forces Medical Sergeant (Green Beret) and Special Operations combat medic, Dr. Hwang brings a mission-driven, team-oriented mindset to every case and serves on the board of Return to Duty, supporting active-duty special operations service members with neurosurgical care. He strives to treat every patient like family, combining compassionate communication with precise, individualized care that extends well beyond the operating room.
