DISC Supports CASA's Children Wellness Philanthropy Event

DISC was a proud sponsor of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Celebration 2022, which was held at Vea Newport Beach on August 27th. The annual gala's mission is to serve abused, abandoned, and neglected children within Orange County via trained advocates and a broad support network. DISC's participation in the gala was covered by two prominent local publications, the Orange County Business Journal and the Newport Beach Independent.

DISC's participation in the the annual CASA Celebration was covered in the Orange County Business Journal (OCBJ).

"This year’s gala netted more than $1.4 million, the highest in the event’s 37-year history, which included an anonymous matching donation from an event guest for $250,000. The funds will support CASA’s ongoing mission to help provide a consistent adult in the life of a young person in the foster care system, which has been shown to improve their grades in school, increase their connections to siblings and extended family, and ensure access to services that will impact their future success."

The Newport Beach Independent also ran a story about the record-breaking CASA Celebration, underwritten by DISC. The paper underlined the gala's importance by quoting Regan Phillips, CASA CEO, on the impact the non-profit has on Orange County's children in need:

"Phillips shared that 'according to child welfare research specialists, youth in foster care are suspended and expelled from school three times more often than other children and at least 40 percent have learning difficulties. A child in foster care is more likely to have an increased frequency of mid-year school changes and an increased number of absences. High school graduation rates for those in foster care are at 58 percent, and for those that do graduate, only 3 percent go on to earn a bachelor’s degree.'

"'But the good news,' noted Phillips, 'is that studies show that it only takes one stable and consistent adult in the life of a young person in the foster care system to help improve their grades in school, increase their connections to siblings and extended family, and ensure access to services that will impact their future success. CASA’s mission supports a tried-and-true model that for decades has made a difference in the lives of countless children.'"
