Any Age Is A Great Age To Exercise

Yesterday was Father’s Day, and we’d like to wish every dad out there a belated greeting.  We hope you got some great gifts from your family, but we want you to know that perhaps the best gift is one that you can give yourself:  a healthy lifestyle.

There are innumerable ways to protect your health at all ages, and a new report from CNN has highlighted some of the ways to do so.  No matter how old you are, you should be able to benefit from some of the advice on hand.

The activities geared toward those in their 20s and 30s are focused on intensive exercise, as the human body will be more capable of dealing with that kind of strain at those ages.  If you’re relatively new to exercise, then this is the point in your life when you can test out different activities to determine what you actually prefer.  You could find that full-body weight lifting becomes your activity of choice, or maybe you’ll discover that swimming or cycling appeals to you more than you ever thought.

Push yourself to your limits at a younger age, but don’t go beyond.  While you may feel indestructible when you’re younger, this simply isn’t the case.  If you go too hard, you could end up sustaining an injury that sidelines you for a long time.  Work out intensively but then also take the time to rest up.

When you get a little older, you want to make sure to protect your joints from some of the damage that may start to accumulate in your 30s.  The report linked to above notes the importance of stabilizing your joints, as protecting these portions of your body becomes a much harder task as time goes by.  You’ll want to start off early so that when a couple decades go by, your knees and other joints will still be healthy and able to accomplish workout feats that would otherwise be impossible if those joints don’t receive attention.

As you get older, the next thing you have to worry about is simply coping with the demands of everyday life that make proper exercise rather difficult to come by.  In addition to a job that keeps you immobile for upwards of eight hours a day, you’re dealing with all those other aspects of your existence (taking the kids to practice, going grocery shopping, etc.) that leave little time for your workout.

The CNN report cites yoga, but no matter what type of activity you prefer, make sure you leave time for said activity.  Take breaks at work if you need to, or ride a bike for your commute.  Wake up early to exercise prior to the start of your day.  In these ways, you’ll continue to exercise when so many others cease their activity.
