Build Muscle The Smart Way

It's one thing to embark on exercise with the ultimate goal being just to stay in shape.  But it’s quite another to set out to improve muscle definition.  That lofty goal is going to take a lot more work, but it is achievable with the right attitude.  A new report highlights some of the ways that an individual can improve their muscle building workouts, and while there’s plenty of attention paid to dieting, we’d like to focus more specifically on those exercise actions you can take.

One of the things to always remember is the old adage, “Slow and steady wins the race.”  Although it’s admirable that you would want to become a paragon of the modern physique overnight, such a goal is simply not realistic.  Don’t just look to two weeks ahead; look to a year ahead and beyond.

When you go in with that kind of attitude, you’ll see that you can ratchet up the intensity in very incremental bursts.  Become comfortable with one level of weights or one running distance before you up the pace, the sets, or the weight being lifted.  If you do these things too soon, you set yourself up for burnout and even injuries.

This also speaks to the importance of rest.  Most people don’t realize that a day of rest after intensive activity is just as important as the activity itself.  It gives your body time to adjust, and yet again, keeps injuries at bay.
