Be Cautious As Students Return To Fall Sports

If your children are getting ready to head back to school and take part in fall sports, then the time to start thinking about how to protect them from sports injuries is right now.  A new article out of Montana highlights the ways that parents can ensure their children are ready for the rigors of fall activities, and you should keep these in mind as the school year gets ready to kick into gear.

A physical is going to be important for ensuring your children don’t have any undiagnosed issues that could spell trouble if exacerbated by physical activity.  While most kids will probably be safe, it’s not a bad idea to have your children submit to a checkup just to be sure.  Better safe than sorry, as they say.

Because a lot will be asked of your children once they actually start practice, they might want to take part in some exercise during the offseason.  Keep in mind, however, that this doesn’t mean they should go overboard with the same motions required of them once they actually start playing their sport of choice.  Early specialization is actually a very real danger in high schools across the country, with teens being pushed to compete like a pro long before they actually are pros.  This can contribute to overuse injuries.  An offseason is important, so any exercise prior to the fall season should emphasize movements and activities that are not typical in their upcoming fall workout regimen.
