Ensure That You Keep Your Exercise Resolution

We commend anyone who intends to make getting more exercise their New Year’s Resolution.  If you do this, though, then the last thing you want is to have your resolution end up like so many others and just fall by the wayside as you lose focus over the coming months (in this regard, setting life goals may be better than setting resolutions).

Many times, the loss of focus is the result of an individual not setting out on their optimal exercise regime from the start.  In doing, they can leave themselves open to fatigue or injury, which might end with them not working out again until next year’s New Year’s Resolution.

A new report has come out that looks at those tactics an individual carry out in order to ensure they’re able to stick to a workout after being away from exercise for a long time.  If a return to exercise is in the cards for you come January 1st, then you’ll certainly want to keep these insights in mind.

First, if you think you may be susceptible to health issues of any kind, you’ll want to speak with a doctor to determine what kind of a workout might be best.  He or she could be able to steer you away from potentially harmful activities and toward those things that will benefit your overall health.

You can work with a trainer to further ensure you’ll be maintaining the type of regimen that can set you up for longterm success and health.  It may be too late to ask for sessions with a personal trainer from Santa Claus, but you can still look into whether local facilities offer deals at the start of the year.  Make sure to stick with what the trainer is telling you, even after you branch off on your own to conduct your workout when your sessions are over.

Most likely, the trainer will ask you to stick well within your limits at the outset.  This is to prevent you from pushing yourself too hard too fast.  Even if you set out on your workout without the help of a trainer, you should only do what you’re comfortable with.  It’s better to run one mile and feel good at the end of the day than to run six and feel absolutely miserable and take weeks or months off to recuperate.

While you’re working out, don’t lose sight of those things that should go hand in hand with any exercise.  A good ten minutes of stretching should take place both before and after any activity, and a similar amount of time should be spent getting your body ready for exercise with a good warmup.  If you conduct a light jog before setting out on the more intensive activity, you should feel like you earned more from the workout while not reeling from the soreness that might otherwise result.
