Protect Student Athletes From Increasingly Common Back Problems

A new article takes a look at how back injuries are becoming increasingly common among teenagers, a relatively recent phenomenon that seemingly has its genesis in the increased specialization youth athletes are expected to engage in.  That idea was one finding from Loyola University’s recent research that delved into the most common types of damage that student athletes face.  When a child or a teenager is expected to engage in a single activity for an extended amount of time, they’re placing strain on those muscles that are constantly being worked while not letting inactive muscles get the movement they require.  More breaks from a single sport are warranted, and students should take especial care with contact sports and intense twisting motions.
