When Sit Happens, Work To Improve Your Glutes

The modern American workforce is largely comprised of citizens who have to sit at a desk all day in order to conduct their business, and this is bad news for overall health.  While this kind of immobile lifestyle can be detrimental to just about every portion of an individual’s body, it can be particularly harmful to a person’s glutes.

The reason for this should be fairly obvious.  You’re sitting on these muscles all day, and they’re not benefitting from the activity they would otherwise get if you were up and walking around.  Thankfully, a new article out of Tallahassee provides some tips on improving the glutes, and you’ll want to enact some of the advice if sitting all day is taking its toll.

First, try not to sit for prolonged periods of time.  This might seem difficult, but really take stock of your day and figure out if there might be opportunities to get up on your feet.  Take ten minutes to walk around the office park, or opt for the stairs instead of the elevator.

There are also specific stretches that will benefit the glutes.  Wall slides are one option.  Basically, you lean up against the wall with your back straight and your feet slightly forward about as far as apart as your shoulders.  Lower your back, pushing your knees outward until it looks like you’re sitting on an invisible chair.  Hold this for up to 30 seconds, then slide back up.
