A Stairway To Better Exercise

Persons looking to get a little bit more out of their running might introduce hills into their exercise.  But individuals who want to go beyond even that could decide to run up a series of stairs, something that’s going to prove taxing to your body.  If you want to embark on such a strenuous activity, then you might consider some of the tips available in a new report out of Boston.

You need to take more care with this type of run than you would with your standard jog.  Stretching becomes even more important than it would be on a flat surface, because the constant leg lifts required to climb the steps mean that you’ll get sore quickly if your muscles aren’t loose.  Stretch for a good ten or even 15 minutes, and make sure that the area is clear while you’re running.  Running into someone could send you tumbling; in fact, you should always watch your footing given the increased injury potential.

Just like with any other type of exercise, you need to ease into this.  Rather than try to climb what amounts to the Empire State Building on your first go-around, do only what you’re comfortable with, perhaps interjecting the stairs into the middle or the end of your standard workout.  Over time, you’ll grow far more comfortable in your abilities and your body will thank you for it.
