Study Reveals Heightened Injury Risk Among Ballerinas

When we think of sports that breed the highest rates of injuries, most peoples’ minds will probably turn to things like football, hockey, and soccer, sports that involve a certain amount of contact and obvious risk.  However, a new study reveals that ballerinas may be just as much if not more at risk as their peers in other sports.  The research hails from Sports Medicine Australia and focuses on teen ballerinas at the elite level.  The study discovered that three out of every four persons in this category were injured within a year.  When you compare that to soccer, the results aren’t even close:  a similar time period and age range found between five and 15% sustaining an injury.
