Working Out When Time Seems To Be Against You

We often offer hints and tricks into how to make a workout as beneficial to your body as it can be, as well as how to avoid injuries that could derail your workout plans.  But maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves by doing that.  Today, when you’ve gotten back to the office for an all-too-quick three day weekend, your biggest obstacle may be simply finding the time to work out on a regular basis.

After all, this obstacle isn’t the type of thing that can be avoided through better form or a certain stretch.  It takes real dedication and schedule juggling for an otherwise busy person to carve out the time necessary to get their body the fitness it needs to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.  Thankfully, a new report out of Australia offers some important insights on how to find the time to work out, and you’ll want to keep these in mind the next time a busy lifestyle undermines your fitness plans.

One of the most important things you can do is work the exercise into your schedule instead of approaching it as if it’s something you do when you have some time.  You’ll be much more inclined to engage in a workout if you set up a time period within the day that you would stick to.  When you do this for awhile, you’ll get in the habit of approaching exercise as if it were as necessary as dinner, thus conditioning yourself to make time you otherwise might not perceive that you have.

Right now, many of you may be saying that this is easy to say if you have the time to schedule time.  Your challenge might be having a spot within your day to even schedule a workout.  If this is the case, then take the workouts where you can get them.  Maybe you don’t have an hour, but do you have 15 minutes?  Is there a time even within your workday where you might be able to take a short break to stretch, lift some hand weights, or take a power walk around the office complex?  Maybe you can make your commute a bike ride instead of a car ride.  All of these things allow you to interject fitness into an otherwise chockfull day, and the exact form of that exercise will depend on your preferences.

When you have these short workouts even on busy days, you’ll help yourself to meet goals that would otherwise seem unapproachable.  By maintaining metrics on those days, you’ll be able to improve on days when you find the time to engage in a more serious workout.
